Debra Roberts, team lead for the Dreamers class at Day Early Learning at Howe, was recognized earlier this week as the 2025 Tanner Teacher of the Year. This annual award recognizes one outstanding Day Early Learning classroom teacher and is made possible through an endowment created by Gene and Rosemary Tanner to support teacher training and professional development.
Debra is known throughout our school for her steady leadership, deep care, and the way she lifts up both children and educators. As her nomination so perfectly states, “Debra Roberts doesn’t just teach the children in her care. She teaches her entire building how to believe in themselves.”
Her influence extends far beyond her classroom. Colleagues describe her as reflective, grounded and deeply respectful—someone who listens intently, asks thoughtful questions and approaches every challenge with humility and care.
