Early Childhood Education?
MORE THAN 120 YEARS AGO, A GROUP OF FORWARD-THINKING, COMMUNITY-MINDED WOMEN CAME TOGETHER TO ADDRESS AN EMERGING NEED IN THEIR CITY:
Women were unable to go to work because they lacked safe and affordable care for their children. But a group of women had a radical idea: to create what would become Indianapolis’s first child care center. They worked tirelessly, outfitting a one-room center near Monument Circle, charging families just five cents for care, and making it all possible with tireless fundraising.
Thanks to our founders and philanthropic citizens like you, Early Learning Indiana has grown significantly from these modest beginnings. Today, we operate nine early learning centers serving nearly 1,000 children each year, provide access for those least able to afford care, and advocate for high-quality early childhood education across Indiana.
The Challenge Today
Early childhood education occupies a unique place in our communities – it allows our children, families and economy to thrive. With 85% of a child’s capacity to learn is developed by the age of 5, early learning is linked to lower incidence of grade repetition, higher graduation rates and improved self-sufficiency, among other positive benefits.
Your gift helps our littlest learners get the most promising start while ensuring their families can work – making Indiana a stellar place to live and work.

A planned gift is a gift that is planned now to be given at a later time. Unlike cash donations, they are typically made from assets in your estate rather than disposable income.
- Most planned gifts are made in the form of a bequest in a will. Giving through your will or trust offers a way to support ELI’s mission for generations while meeting your current financial needs.
- Income gifts allow you to make a gift and receive income back for you or a loved one. There are several ways to accomplish this tailored to your personal goals.
- Other creative gift plans provide opportunities to transfer ownership of your home, farm or other treasured asset to ensure your dream of helping Indy youth is met.
