January 26, 2009 officially ushered in the Year of the Ox in the Chinese community and Day Nursery classrooms had many celebrations. I happened to be at the Ft. Harrison Day Nursery center the next day and enjoyed seeing artwork created by the kindergarten class taught by Doris Minor and James Leonard. The Chinese characters pictured to the right modeled after real words and they represent the creative interpretations of the five and six year olds in that classroom. The students spent a week and a half learning about Chinese culture and Miss Doris added several special items to the classroom to get them in the mood.
