Kroger Awards Early Learning Indiana $90K to Support New Math Programs

For Immediate Release: April 19, 2017

Today, Early Learning Indiana announced that it has been awarded a $90,000 from Kroger Co. to implement new math curriculum in its 10 central Indiana Day Early Learning facilities.

The grant, which will be distributed over 3 years, will be used to purchase a new evidence-based math curriculum, supporting materials and technology, as well as for ongoing teacher training. Overall, the program will benefit more than 500 children and 50 teachers.

“We are so grateful to Kroger for this gift,” said Ted Maple, Ph.D., Early Learning Indiana president and CEO. “More than two-thirds of the preschool students we serve are from low-income households and don’t have basic language and math skills. Through this award, we will be able to help them learn, grow and be better prepared for kindergarten and beyond.”

The grant is a part of Kroger Co. Central Division’s multi-year, $4.8 million dollar commitment to make children more successful in the classroom by supporting local organizations implementing new, innovative concepts.

“Early Learning Indiana has earned a tremendous reputation for providing so many years of service to local children,” said Katie Wolfram, President of Kroger Central Division. “Kroger is proud to fund the new math curriculum because we believe this kind of education is essential to the needs of modern society. But, at a more basic level, it is important to support Hoosier students from the moment they start school. Our Kroger grants are part of a continuing, long-term commitment to educational goals we all share. We believe, in the long run, our contribution to Early Learning Indiana will encourage students while they’re in school and enable them to lead more productive lives when they graduate.”
