Today, Early Learning Indiana’s Partnerships for Early Learners released the first in a series of briefs quality rating and improvement systems (QRIS). The first issue in the Deconstructing QRIS series examines the diverse efforts throughout the United States. Series author, Emily C. “To get a better understanding of Indiana’s QRIS, Paths to QUALITY, we wanted to provide an overview of the range of systems that have developed in the last two decades,” says Emily C. Rouge, brief author and Early Learning Indiana’s Paths to QUALITY Enhancement Initiative Fellow.

Funded by the Lilly Endowment, the QRIS Deconstructed series examines the similarities and differences of various aspects of 41 programs from across the country. Future issues will examine technical assistance, the use of incentives, and financing these programs, among other aspects of implementation. Additional briefs will be released in the final quarter of 2017.
