Day Nursery Avon staff donates Locks of Love

Joy McCall

The staff of Day Nursery Hendricks County is a very caring group of people. In addition to all the nice things they do for the children and parents in their center, they are always helping out in the community.  Here’s a good example.  Back in February, Center Director Joy McCall walked into my office with a cute haircut.  When I complimented her on it, she mentioned that she had cut off 14 and one half inches after several months of growing it long so she could donate it to Locks of Love.  This is not the first time Joy has done this either.  Locks of Love’s mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.

You can see how long Joy’s hair was (She’s in red, on left) in December 2009 in this picture from Polar Express Day.

Yesterday I got an email from Joy that Matt Miller, one of her preschool teachers had cut his hair and donated it to Locks of Love.  Matt often wears his hair pulled back so I hadn’t realized how long it had grown.  Check out this picture.  This is Matt after cutting 13 inches of his hair.  If you are interested in helping Locks of Love, click on the link in this post and you can learn more about the donation requirements.
